Comtrend Announces TR-143-Standards Based, Zero-Touch CAF Testing Solutions for Service Providers

Irvine, CA—Comtrend, a leader in broadband networking for Service Providers, announced today the launch of two TR-143-based solutions that address the latest FCC testing requirements for the Connect America Fund (CAF):

Comtrend’s ACS 3.0 and Fine Point’s Speed Master. Unlike “white box” solutions that require additional hardware within the end user’s home, both of these offered CAF solutions are software-based and utilize the existing Comtrend Gateway. This allows Service Providers to remotely upgrade the Gateway to support the CAF solution without end user engagement or interruption.

There is no need for a costly truck roll to the home to install a new “white box” monitoring device that may cause privacy concerns. Today, Comtrend offers these two solutions to meet the dynamic requirements of Service Providers:

First, Comtrend has released its enhanced ACS 3.0 that includes a CAF module that follows TR-143 specifications for FCC-compliant performance testing.

Comtrend’s ACS 3.0 is a low-cost solution for Service Providers that want a CAF solution with the added benefits of an ACS. This is an easy option for current Comtrend ACS customers or Service Providers that exclusively use Comtrend Gateways. Comtrend’s ACS 3.0 functionality not only includes all standard provisioning features, but goes further to add new features such as a customer service representative (CSR) dashboard, G.hn Powerline diagnostic integration, and end-to-end speed testing (Gateway WAN to Internet, Gateway to node, node to remote device).

Second, Comtrend has partnered with Fine Point Technologies, a leading provider of software tools that connect network operators to their customers, to offer Speed Master, a modular addition to the Mountain View ACS.

This is a robust CAF solution with the added benefits of an ACS with powerful analytics. This solution is ideal for Service Providers who also are already interested in an ACS. The tests will be performed following TR-143 specifications, and have a simplified, intuitive user-interface for easy compliance. Additionally, Mountain View enables tools to proactively identify consumer trends, up-sell customers who need more bandwidth, remotely troubleshoot WiFi issues, and much more.

Comtrend North America’s VP of Technology, Kuma Lin, comments,

“We are very excited to announce our TR-143-based CAF reporting solutions that will support all speed tiers and can take advantage of existing Comtrend Gateways. Our solutions will be available across our multiple access technologies including ADSL, A/VDSL, Ethernet, and more. These are end-to-end solutions that simplify the FCC testing requirements, all while offering additional management features to enhance the user experience.”

Both Comtrend’s ACS 3.0 and Fine Point’s Speed Master have been designed to meet CAF requirements, however, each solution goes beyond this functionality to bring additional unique benefits.
